2008 Season Outlook

With the spring season fastly approaching the 2008 Sacred Heart Pioneer baseball program is practicing hard to get on the winning track again. After winning the 2006 NEC Championship game, the 2007 season was quite upsetting for the Pioneer's, where they finished fifth in the standings and failed to reach the conference tournament.

The Pioneer's graduated 11 senior players after the 2007 season and are returning few upper classman to the roster. With a plagued winter offseason and the loss of key players due to injury or non eligibility the roster is anchored by it's two seniors, captain Frank Bainer and first baseman Jeff Hanson. Both will be crucial in the success of this years season. The Pioneer's also have a talented middle infield fielded by junior captain Phil Tantillo and red shirt junior Ryan Nemcek. With the return of a talented group of sophmores and a large group of freshman players, the 2008 Pioneer's will be a very young program.

Practice has started and the countdown till the first game has started. The schedule includes games against: Houston, Tulane, UMass, Army, and many others. For a complete schedule go to the official Sacred Heart Baseball website.

With a handful of great coaches such as Nick Giaquinto, Wayne Mazzoni, Chris Aldrich, Earl Mathison and myself, the players have gotten back into the swing of things and have started to come together as a team. The few upper classmen will serve the young talent on this team to help them mature and grow into future stars for this program. Although young, the 2008 Sacred Heart Pioneer's should not be overlooked as we have the ability to win.

I just wanted to point out that I am wearing a red batting practice top, and my legs are coming out of the bottom of that pile.
